Other things

Isabel's student council poster.

 Sebastian likes catching things.

Leo brought home a Mormon cricket that his coworkers caught.  Sebastian took it to school the next day.  I'm not sure how his teacher felt about that.

Elena's YW Projects

Elena has been trying to finish the whole YW Recognition Award this year before they replace the program.  She started sewing this outfit before school started, but with how busy everything was, she didn't have a chance to finish it.  So I made her stay home one day from school and she sewed ALL day.  And it's so cute!!!  The top is the Sorbetto blouse by Colette--free pattern online, and the skirt is New Look 6579.

And she had finished her quilt this summer!!  I love it!!  She loves it!!!!  It really is so cute!

Nicolas's Seventh Mad Scientist Birthday Party

Nicolas had his seventh BIG birthday party.  He had a mad scientist birthday party and the kids got googles, lab coat, disappearing ink pen and pad of paper (that was the winner right there), test tubes with candy and a chocolate lab rat.  It was really fun with only a few hiccups.  First I didn't think about the dry ice solidifying the jello in the containers on the table--I should have just used plain colored water.  So our stuff stopped smoking.  😟  And then my sisters were late because of the road construction so our experiments were really rushed.  The kids loved them though!! We did kid friendly elephant toothpaste, carbon sugar snake, Hot ice (that didn't work) and then really cool slime that changed colors with heat.  The slime had all sorts of things in it like foaming hand soap and baby oil and shaving cream and it really was the best slime ever!  Here's the link to the recipe: https://playandgo.com.au/index.php/make-fluffy-slime-best-fluffy-slime-recipe-australia/
And the recipe in case the link dies--but the site really does have some good info!

  • Elmer’s School Glue White 225ml bottle
  • Approx. 6 teaspoons of Borax solution (made from 1 teaspoon of Borax mixed with 1 cup of warm water)
  • Approx. 1 cup shaving foam
  • Approx. 1/2 cup foaming hand soap
  • Approx. 15 pumps of body lotion
  • 1 Tablespoon Baby Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons cornflour
  • Washable Kid’s Paint – we use the Crayola brand and we loved this Neon Colours pack pictured below.
And I added thermochromic powder as well.  That's the part that went REALLY crazy!  I didn't add enough borax at first and we had too goopy of slime everywhere!!  Good thing kids had on lab coats because that would have to have been washed out of their clothes.  But we got it right by the end and my kids played with their amount for weeks afterwards.  Then we had cake and punch with sherbet and one last experiment of making a pickle glow.  The kids really did have a great time.   Note to myself though--I tried to fit in too much.  Nicolas loved it though!!

After we went to the park and had a hotdog roast at the park with cousins.  An after party party.  That was fun too!

Updates on House

I wasn't too sad about our house being behind schedule, but I saw it coming, but the closer it gets to should-have-been-done time, the more sad I am.  Actually it might just be the snow I saw the other day and the fact that I don't want to move in the snow. Yuck.  But progress is being made slowly.  I painted another coat on the front door, the siding is down.  I painted another back door brown to match the dark brown trim--and I love how that looks too!  And the cabinets are all picked out, me and Leo figured out how we're going to DIY our range hood.  And the appliances have been delivered.
Our pretty pretty tile.

And I found out we have a chokecherry tree in the backyard!!! Hallelujah!!

Start of SCHOOL!!

And so it begins....
Sebas was sick and throwing up the first day of school so he actually started the next day.

Hiking with Kayli and Lindsay and Mom

Just before the start of school, I went and hung out with Kayli and saw her lovely new home.  I was supposed to be helping but really I took a nap on the couch each day.  I did change the seat covers on her dining room chairs though--however Chad had to put them back together because it was late.  That said Kayli kept telling me to stop and I didn't and that's good right?  Maybe?  Anyway, then we went hiking and then had dinner with Lindsay's family that night for their back to school feast.  It was fun.  The hike was lovely.
