Driving Home

Yellowstone was beautiful and lush with meadows and grass, but being stopped for an hour in traffic due to the 6 elk by the road kind of dampened my enthusiasm for the place.  I think I'd have liked it more if we had have had more time to spend and explore.  Just driving back through the next day on our way home, I was not impressed enough (too many tourists, too much traffic) to want to go back.  But the Grand Teton National Park, now there, I want to go back too.  As soon as I saw those mountains, I was in love.  You really don't see mountains in Yellowstone, at least not the little bit we drove through.  By the South Entrance of Yellowstone there was a forest fire, in fact the next day it was closed due to the fire, but we made it through okay, and then all the rest of these pictures are of the Tetons.  We had thought about doing something around Jackson Hole, but by the time we got there, we really just wanted to get home, so we didn't stop anywhere, just drove by.  Anyway, it's not as green by the Tetons, more sagebrush than Yellowstone, but really I just love mountains.  And I think I would go to Glacier and Banff and Waterton over Yellowstone too.  But again, maybe if it had been under less hectic circumstances, or if my kids hadn't been bickering in the car the WHOLE time, I might have a better opinion.

Wedding Fun!

Alex and Amy had their wedding on Saturday afternoon and it was LOVELY.  Perfect weather, beautiful location--I'm so happy for them!

Leo looked so deliciously handsome.  Sigh, I should have taken 8 billion photos of him.  Good thing I get to look at him everyday.  :)

Amy with their little boy, Leander.

Ana with her sister Natalia, Jonathon, and their baby Sofia.

So beautiful!!!

Sofia is a doll!  She is so cute with her big black eyes.

Martha wanted a family picture at the wedding, but it never happened.  They took this the next day after leaving.  Cesar, Orlando, and Jonathon, and then Alisha, Martha and Natalia.

Cute cousins!  Leander and Jubal.

Amy had us in a lodge with all the other guests who had children. My kids loved playing with the two other kids.  They were all best friends by the end of the weekend.  While we were eating dinner, Sebas said he wanted to dance with me, but the little blonde girl piped right up, "You are dancing with ME!" And she meant it.  She insisted on dancing with Sebas for quite a while, until the water and sand eventually called them away.

By the evening, people were  getting a little wasted, and our kids were happily playing in the sand so Leo brought out our fishing poles and him and Ana and Sebas fished for an hour before we headed back to the lodge.  That's an awesome wedding.  Hee. Hee.

Mesa Falls near Island Park

After going to Yellowstone for the morning, Leo and I went to the wedding rehearsal and dinner, and then when we got home that evening, we roasted marshmallows and made s'mores with the kids, and invited Cesar and Alisha (his girlfriend) to join us, and some of the other wedding guests staying at the lodge and Natalia and her husband and daughter.  It was fun, but we kind of paid for it the next day, because the kids were SO grouchy in the car, and fought and bickered and bickered and fought.  Errr... Not fun.  But we went to Mesa Falls, for a quick visit before we had to head right back to get ready for the wedding.  I wish we had have had time to hike the mile down to the lower falls.  Leo and I were both dying to.  And Leo wanted to take the boys fishing, but we really didn't have time for that either.  Anyway, here's beautiful Mesa Falls.

Yellowstone

We spent part of Friday before the wedding on Saturday in Yellowstone.  It was fun but too rushed--seriously, Yellowstone in one morning? But it was gorgeous!!  Old Faithful was cool, but actually just driving and seeing all the steam rising all over was just as cool in a way.  And then we had lunch and let the kids play in a river.  That was the best part.  :)  Sebastian caught a frog twice and dived in naked.  Hee. Hee.

This little herd of elk caused us to be stuck in traffic for over an hour. Not cool elk, not cool.
