This was rated by Sebastian as one of his favorite stops in the whole trip. Giant crocodile fossil--of course he'll love it. It's a Monquirasaurus boyacensis, from the cretaceous-period (about 110 to 115 million years old). It was discovered in a farmer's field in 1977 and they were going to transport it somewhere else, but the local community protested so they ended up just building a museum around it. Cool, eh?
This is another museum by the way. This one was already closed and we decided not to go back, it was really close to the Museo El Fósil though. The whole area has tons of fossils all over.
Efraim also said this was a highlight of the trip and he spent months drawing pictures of ammonites in his sketchbook.
Just as freaky as a crocodile. Colombia has the largest number of crocodilian/alligator species in the world. 16 different types. Thankfully not this guy anymore though.
It looks bigger from this angle.
😂😂 My kids didn't recognize the Flintstone car.
