Aww, empty open roads with the horizon in sight and nothing else are my happy places.
On June 1st, we made it to Custer State Park. We camped that night at the Blue Bell Campground, and watched a little video on buffalo that was set up by the rangers. It was pouring rain by morning, and we packed up in the rain. It convinced us to change our plans for camping in tents. I had reserved two nights at a KOA type campground before going back to the park (split up at different campgrounds because I didn't plan ahead enough), but we decided to move to the KOA-type campground outside the park permanently and paid for cabins. It rained off and on the entire week and camping in the rain is not the greatest. It really was the best decision we made. We hiked the trails of Cathedral Spires, Little Devils Tower Spur, and Black Elk Peak in a loop that second day and it was gorgeous!!
