First day of school! *Sort of. But with just a couple weeks left of the school year (summer break is December and January) they started back in the grade they were in before. Hopefully that gives them some transition time to pick up some Spanish anyway. But yeah, they're going to the same school Leo went to. So crazy!
Leo went took the kids to the school one day to try to get them all registered and so they could have a tour and meet the teachers. We hoped it would mean they would start soon, but it still was another 3 weeks. Sigh.
They found Cesar in a yearbook though. We had to have all their school records professionally translated to Spanish and then notarized and apostilled and fingerprinted. I'm actually kind of blocking out the horrible memories of ALL the things we had to do to get them admitted. It was a crazy amount of paperwork though, and we spent over $1,000 getting all the paperwork translated and notarized, etc. I can't believe how complicated the process was. But eventually we prevailed and they started school.
They started seminary long before they started school. It's after school, twice a week in person and three times a week online. Maritza (the YW president) was awesome and she and her son, Juan Manuel, came to our house and walked with them to seminary the first couple of weeks.
I took an Uber one day to the San Rafael Mall to get their uniforms. That was another $1,000+ expense. Really, their school is the most expensive thing about living in Colombia. Luckily we got a discount with each additional child. Also, we paid for the school bus and lunches till the end of the 2023 school year, but the next year we found an uber driver to take them (less expensive and way faster so they could sleep in longer) and I made homemade lunches for them.
The girls were not impressed with their uniforms.
