Zoológico Santacruz

One day when the older girls were gone for some YW's thing, I took the boys to the Santacruz Zoo in San Antonio Del Tequendama.  I really thought the boys would like it, and it was hard setting a time when everyone would be able to go, and also the water was going to be shut off to our house that day, so I thought it would be good to not have the boys at home.  Little did I know that soon we would be having the water shut off monthly and for a while weekly because Bogotá was experiencing a huge drought and the water levels in their main reservoir that fed the city water was practically dry.  Anyway, at the time, I didn't know that and was far more worried about the water, when after a time it was just life as normal, filling buckets with water and living in a stinky house.

Driving to the Zoo
I realize I have way too many photos of jaguars on here, but they are so gorgeous!!!  Beautiful, beautiful animals.
The enclosures at the zoo left something to be desired--they were frequently too small.  On the whole though, the zoo was clean and all the animals looked healthy, so while I sympathize with some extranejeros bad reviews online, I didn't think it was terribly bad.

This is a famous waterfall we drove by on the way there. So beautiful.

Weird plants.
I was trying to take a photo of the boys with the jaguar in the background.
But then it came up behind them and ruined my photo. 😉
The boys were thrilled!

Lovely orchids.

Not sure what type of raptor this was.
A javelina.

This is a Chavaría.

And a lora cacique.  That plumage--no wonder they call it the chief parrot.
The flamingos were so hilarious. They move in unison

These birds looked awesome, the Crested Caracaras.
And this bird looked freaky, and not real.  It's fake.  😂 It's a Rey de los Gallinazos or in English, the King Vulture.
A Saki monkey.  I don't like monkeys.  They're freaky.
And a Tití Panameno monkey.
The parrots were stunning!  One of them talked but just a little bit.

DEMON bird!!!

This guy is a Coatí or a Guache or a Cusumbo.  I'm guessing depending on where you're from.  I thought it was hilarious that the zoo had all three names listed.
A caiman just for Sebastian.

Spider monkeys.
And a devil monkey.  It looks evil.
A funky monkey.
And an anteater.

EWWWW!  And a devil snake.
I think this was a python of some sort.
And this was an anaconda.
Snakes are freaky.  More than monkeys.  Definitely THE most freaky of animals.
This is a macabriel.
Weird pimply plant.
And the king of ugly birds:  The Andean Condor.
We watched it being fed.  That was really cool.

Yep, I still prefer spiders and scorpions over snakes.
These guys are fun though.
The butterfly house only had three species, but man was one a showstopper.

Look how pretty when opened!

A Tapir!
Catching ants, because apparently that's my lot in life is to watch ants and hear about ants and help gather ants.  Sigh.

Another fake.

That has to be the prettiest peacock I ever did see.
Crazy that hippos are an invasive species in Colombia because of Pablo Escobar bringing in 4.  It seems like something that could be hunted down easily.

Black swans are cool looking.
That monkey was going crazy.

That face! 😂😂😂
More freaky monkeys.
I love the mountains in Colombia.
