We took a back route (no trail, we just winged it from Leo's map) down the side of the mountain to East Fork River. Chilly before the sun hits, even in August.
There's East Fork River.
We followed the East Fork Washaki Trail for a bit.
Ran into other campers with their horses and chatted a bit. Leo recognized one of them. AND then the guy told us how our mom gives him a hug at church every Sunday. Yep, that's not surprising at all, but so random.
Then Jared did some fishing.
We watched.
He caught a bunch of these little trout and was so disappointed they weren't bigger. Turns out they really don't grow much bigger because of low oxygen and other things. And then we ate some the very last day, and they were so GOOD!!! Best fish I've ever eaten in my life! And then we were really sad about all the fish Jared had caught and released.
Leo helped.We modeled.
Then continued on.
So somewhere around here we veered off the trails and headed to Raid Lake. This was kind of the unknown bit of the hike that Leo's friend, Kaye Cox, recommended. It's a bit off the beaten path.
